The next Daffodil Weekend will be on 19 & 20 March 2022 (fingers crossed), by which time we hope we will have come through this wretched Coronavirus and all be in need of a stonkingly good country fair.

CANCELLED - Thriplow Daffodil Weekend 2021
Due to the continuing situation with Covid-19, the Daffodil Weekend Committee, along with other major groups within the community, have agreed that it will not be possible to safely hold the 2021 event whilst still meeting the primary goal of raising funds for charity. Obviously, this is a huge disappointment to everyone involved.
Our first duty is to keep our visitors and volunteers safe. Although Daffodil Weekend is seen mainly as an outdoor event, there are many areas where close proximity indoors occurs, such as in the tearooms, craft marquees, church, beer tent, minibuses and coaches, increasing further risks of transmission of the virus to our visitors.
Daffodil Weekend is a charity fundraising event staffed entirely by volunteers. There are large costs associated with staging the event which we start to incur from early autumn. The social distancing measures, which we are inevitably going to have to enforce, would mean the weekend would make significant losses.
Further plantings of daffodils will take place this autumn ready for when we can fully resume the event. The daffodils will, of course, still be there to be enjoyed.
2021 would have been the 52nd Weekend. This is the first time in its history that the event has been cancelled two years in a row. Here’s to looking forward to DW 2022.

Thriplow Daffodil Weekend 2020 and Covid-19 (Corona virus): event cancelled 28 & 29 March 2020
Hi everyone
It is with very deep regret that we have taken the decision to cancel Thriplow Daffodil Weekend this year. There are several compelling reasons for this:
Although the event is predominantly outdoors there are areas where close indoor contact is unavoidable (tea rooms, the Church, coaches, minibuses etc) which give rise to a significant risk of transmission
The demographic of our visitors means we have a much larger proportion of people in high-risk groups
We do not want to run the risk of infecting anyone in the village
It is likely that visitor numbers will be severely impacted as people make their own judgements about the risks of attending public events
Cancelling early limits the financial impact for us as a village and also for stallholders and others gearing up for the event
Obviously this is very disappointing and it was a very difficult decision to take. The pros and cons were debated at length by the Daffodil Committee and other key stakeholders, and while opinion was divided, we concluded that based on the balance of probabilities, we should cancel now rather than waiting for an official change in Government policy.
We are now working hard to mitigate the impact of this decision which will be significant for stallholders, coach companies, ticket holders etc. many of whom have a long history of supporting Daffodil Weekend. We have already agreed that this year's nominated charities will be rolled over to next year.
I would like to thank everyone for the enormous amount of work they have already put in. Daffodil Weekend will be back next year. In the meantime, please look after yourselves and others and enjoy our wonderful display of daffodils.

Royal Papworth Charity is delighted to have been chosen as one of the Charity Partners for the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend 2020. Everyone at Royal Papworth Hospital is excited about having the opportunity to be a part of this truly fantastic event and the chance to raise vital funds for Royal Papworth Charity.
Royal Papworth Hospital is a globally renowned centre for excellence delivering the very best care and treatments for our patients with cardiovascular disease. We are thrilled to be able to connect with our new Cambridgeshire community as we continue to settle into our purpose built state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
As a partner of the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend we will be able to raise money towards our largest ever capital appeal in support of the Heart and Lung Research Institute. This is a transformational project and we are hugely grateful to everyone for their generosity and support. The Heart and Lung Research Institute will be a new international centre of excellence for cardiovascular and respiratory research; it will integrate discovery and translational sciences to directly benefit our patients at Royal Papworth Hospital and improve cardiovascular medicine globally.
Royal Papworth is fully committed to addressing the epidemic of heart and lung disease which will kill 1 in 4 of us in the UK if there are no medical advances. We have identified a real and urgent need for this facility, to not only transform the way cardiovascular disease is treated forever but to also train the next generation of scientists and equip them to work across multiple disciplines to accelerate research.
Partnerships such as this not only help to save lives, but also improve lives and save billions in healthcare costs. Together with all the wonderful residents of Thriplow we hope to make 2020 the biggest and best Daffodil Weekend ever.

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a community-funded service which helps to save hundreds of lives across the region each year. Its highly-skilled doctor and critical care paramedic teams take the hospital to the patient and can attend any type of life-threatening or life-changing incident, such as a road traffic collision or cardiac arrest. Not only do they provide critical care at the scene but can quickly transfer the patient to the most appropriate hospital to get the patient definitive treatment. The charity has two helicopters operating in the region; one from Norwich and one from Cambridge, and can reach anywhere in East Anglia in 25 minutes.
In addition to providing expert care when needed, the charity is committed to training more people in the community in first aid and CPR so that people living in the region can get more immediate help before medical crews arrive at the scene of an emergency. Survival rates from an out of hospital cardiac arrest are just one in ten but early CPR and access to a defibrillator can drastically increase survival rates. The charity offers free CPR training for community groups from its frontline crew and volunteers to try and change this. EAAA also has a dedicated Aftercare Team which helps patients and their families understand what happened during an incident or injury and answer any questions they may have. This team also provides support for the patient throughout their recovery process to help them adjust and to share the patient’s progress with the teams who treated them.
Georgina Forbes, Community Fundraiser at EAAA, said: “We rely on the community to keep our helicopters airborne and saving lives and simple couldn’t help people in their hour of need without that incredible support. We need to raise more than £13 million a year to develop and deliver our service, especially as we aim to fly 24/7 from next year, to allow us to help hundreds more people as there is currently a five hour gap at night in the region where there is no helicopter coverage if needed. It’s such a privilege to be selected as a benefitting charity for an event such as the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend. It really is with community support like this that we’re able to save lives, support out patients as they recover and deliver life-saving CPR training in the community.”
